As a software engineer, I’m always looking to...

As a software engineer, I’m always looking to be involved in helping the team around me get better. My current role includes helping other managers within the organization with folks on their teams. Two common and related concerns that they often bring up are that it’s hard for folks on their teams to find mentorship and challenging to find mentees as a mentor. " "" "The solution is simple to me, not to diminish the problem folks face: reach out to people you want to talk to and ask them questions about their work. That could be another engineer more senior than you that you look up to or a junior engineer who just started from another company you were curious about. " "" "In the former, you get mentorship from someone else by getting answers to your question from a trusted individual more senior than you. In the latter, you can share in the mentorship by learning about the other person while hopefully also helping them in their new role. Mentorship is almost always a 2-way street, which is why LinkedIn’s “Relationships Matter” value is so on the nose; relationships are essential to finding mentorship #bendevtip
