As a conversational AI chatbot, ChatGPT can seem a bit spooky in how good its responses can be, but understanding how it works has helped me, at least, demystify this "magic." " "" "To start breaking it down here's a first fact: ChatGPT is a separate model from GPT-3. " "" "They are related, of course: ChatGPT is a model that leveraged GPT-3 in its training. With all the discussions of GPT-4, it will be interesting to see what OpenAI does with ChatGPT. It currently costs on the order of cents per chat, but GPT-4 is supposedly 1000x larger, parameter-wise, which would increase inference cost significantly. So we might not see a ChatGPT based on GPT-4 for a long while, or it might be quite pricy. #bendevtip
